The mission of the Usher and Greeter at St. Gabriel is that of hospitality.  Our service makes parishioners and guests feel welcome and comfortable as we gather for our Eucharistic celebration.  Our ushers and greeters are able to see the presence of Christ in each person as he or she arrives.

The members of the Hospitality Ministry are equipped for their ministry with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  These spiritual gifts are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to make their ministry effective and build up the body of Christ.  When people come to church, they come with the hope that the Mass will uplift and inspire; it is a time of renewal and celebration.  Skillful ushers and greeters ensure that people experience love and kindness upon entering church. Ministers of Hospitality play a crucial role as visible signs of Christ’s unconditional love in the church.

Duties

The ministry to which a person is called can best be described in the following ways:

• Welcome worshippers as they enter the church; help them feel welcome and at ease.
• Escort worshippers to their seats, as needed.
• Select a family to make the Offertory presentation.
• Distribute materials related to the service, such as bulletins, handouts, etc.
• Receive and deliver offerings promptly and securely to the parish office.
• Be ready for any emergency that may arise, relieving the need or contacting the person(s) needed to provide the proper assistance.
• Wish everyone a good day at the conclusion of the Mass.
• Direct individuals out of the service in an orderly fashion, leaving the church ready for the next service or meeting.

Time Commitment:  15 minutes before Mass; 15 minutes after Mass.
Training:  Experienced Ushers and Greeters provide “on-the-job” training.
